What the service does

You enter a street address, or drop a pin on a map, and your own mobile number. Every few minutes the service reads the public outage maps published by Hawaiian Electric's three operating companies — HECO on Oʻahu, MECO in Maui County, HELCO on Hawaiʻi Island — and checks whether any reported outage area covers your address.

• When one first does, you get one text.
• When none does any more, you get one more text.
• That is the whole service. It is free, and there is no account.

Kauaʻi is not covered: KIUC, the island's co-operative utility, publishes outage points rather than service areas, so no individual address can be matched against them.

What the messages look like

Frequency, stopping, and help

• Up to two messages per outage, per address. One number may watch up to five addresses.
• Reply STOP to any message, or press “Stop texts” on the signup form, to delete every address stored for your number immediately.
• Reply HELP, or email us, for help.
• Message and data rates may apply. We charge nothing.
• This is not an emergency service. For warnings and evacuations follow the National Weather Service and your county emergency management agency.
